Belle (Beauty and the Beast)

Belle is so named because she is both beautiful and pure of heart.

She is a devoted, loving daughter whose natural, dazzling beauty is more than just skin deep. Kind and intelligent, Belle would rather read books and feed her imagination then be courted by the rude and boorish men from her village. She dreams of exciting adventures in faraway places and isn't afraid to follow her brave heart and make things happen.

One dark stormy night, Belle's father gets lost and stumbles upon a shadowy castle where he is locked in the dungeon by the owner, a frightful Beast. Belle soon learns of her father's plight, and offers to take his place if the Beast will set him free. The Beast agrees and Belle must stay and live with him in his castle.

Belle soon discovers that the castle is not as scary as it first seems; in fact it is enchanted and so are the household objects, they are alive! They warmly welcome Belle to their home by entertaining her with song and dance and preparing a magnificent meal.

As Belle and Beast spend time together, Belle realises that he has a kind, beautiful heart underneath his fierce exterior; he can be kind and gentle, not like the monster that people think he is.

They form a friendship that eventually blossoms into love. When they kiss, the Beast is transformed into the handsome Prince that was deep inside him all along; Belle has set him free, her pure heart could see the goodness and beauty that was within.

Belle and the Prince live happily ever after.

Belle's wardrobe

Belle's favourite outfit is her blue village dress matched with a white blouse, white apron and finished off with a beautiful blue ribbon in her hair.

For special occasions such a grand ball Belle likes to dress in a long yellow ballroom dress matched with long lace gloves.

The origins of Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast is a traditional fairy tale. Variants are known throughout Europe but the most well known come from France. In some versions Belle is the daughter of a king and has been sent to live with a village family to protect her from an evil fairy that wants her dead; in these stories this is the same fairy that put the curse on the beast.
