Pocahontas
Pocahontas, the enchanting daughter of Chief Powhatan, is a free-spirited, headstrong young woman with a passionate spirit that captivates all who know her. Her name means 'Little Mischief', and with her curiosity and playful sense of adventure it is hard not to see why. Pocahontas has deep affinity with nature; she respects all animals and plants, communicating with them and living in harmony with them.
Pocahontas' father wants her to marry and take her place amongst her people, but she declines because she always follows her heart; she feels her heart is leading her down a different path.
One-day strange new visitors arrive from a far off land; Pocahontas is intrigued, she has never seen such people before. She follows one of the visitors, eager to learn more about him. He soon spots her and they meet face to face for the first time. At first Pocahontas cannot understand the man and his strange language, but after taking his hand and listening to her heart, the barrier is broken and the man introduces himself as John Smith.
The two soon become friends, but rivalry and mistrust between John's people and Pocahontas' people soon threaten this blossoming friendship. After an incident between the two sides, John is captured by Pocahontas' father and held as a prisoner. John's life is in danger, but Pocahontas comes to his rescue, showing that violence and hatred lead nowhere and that wisdom and understanding are the true paths to follow.
Both sides see the error of their ways and make peace. Unfortunately John must return home, he asks Pocahontas to come with him. She explains that her place is here amongst her people and that 'No matter what happens, I'll always be with you, forever.' The two part; both are upset but happy that they had the chance to meet, knowing that they will be in each other's hearts always.

Origins of Pocahontas

Little is known about the thoughts and feelings of the real Pocahontas, as she could not write, much of her story is taken from other people's writings. Pocahontas was her childhood nickname, given to her because of her mischievous nature; her real names were Matoaka and Amonute.
